Undergraduate Student
Hello! I’m Wilson, a Columbia College student currently pursuing a joint Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Computer Science.
Â
Formerly, I worked on research projects at UPenn largely encompassing machine learning modeling and computational techniques. Initially working on pipeline visualization under the STREAMLINE approach, I moved on to innovating Learning Classifier Systems (an ensemble learning method) by implementing Random Forest Initialization. Afterwards, I applied classical bioinformatics techniques in RNA-sequencing to ML, developing a method of using differentially expressed genes as key features for training. This technique was ultimately used to create ML models capable of diagnosing patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s Disease.
Â
I joined Zaccara Lab in hopes of sharpening my computational skillset whilst exploring new frontiers in RNA biology through studying splicing disorders such as Myelodysplastic Syndromes. Ultimately, I wish to hone my skillsets for a research-oriented career in Medicine.
