Tom Murphy

PhD student (rotation)

I am a first-year PhD student in the Integrated in CMBS program. During my rotation at Zaccara lab, I hope to optimize a novel reporter platform to assess the impact of the YTHDF2 protein on mRNA stability and phase-separation.

Before starting at Columbia, I worked in the Ordureau Lab at Sloan Kettering Institute as a research tech. Over three years I developed a method to explore ubiquitin-binding proteins (“readers”) with selectivity for residue-specific phosphorylated Ub proteoforms.

I graduated from Brown University in 2021 having studied Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In this time, I worked with Iuliana Ene on the emergence of anti-fungal drug resistance in Candida albicans yeast.
